Important Announcement

Dear Members

Following the latest developments in the Coronavirus situation, IOMPS committee members  met today  and have reluctantly taken the decision to suspend ALL club meetings from now.  (17th March 2020)
This decision is re-inforced, of course, by the fact that many of of our members fall into the critical +70 age group and non essential social contacts need to be avoided

The remainder of this season’s programme including the AGM and Annual Open will be postponed .
The Annual Dinner will also be postponed.
(Your entries for the Annual Comp will be retained, including the entry fees until this Comp can be held , hopefully in September when the judging will be re-scheduled ).
The point totals for this season’s comps are now on the Results page, 2019-20 .

The 2 way Battle with Bristol has been judged on Island at the Judge’s home. The results are on the website under the Results tab, and the images are on the Latest News page and on Facebook.

The Bank Cup (Nature) and the  audio video of the 3 way Battle with Rochdale & Oldham will be held over until next season .  (Your submitted Nature images  for the Bank Cup will be retained.)

Your present Committee will remain in place .

The duration of this suspension will depend on how the situation develops. We will keep you abreast of the latest situation as and when information becomes available.

Welcome !

Calling all photographers! The club is looking for new members! You know you enjoy taking photos, whether with camera or phone.

So would you like to think about joining the club? Maybe you would be interested in practical demonstrations to develop new skills ?  Or perhaps you’re already an enthusiast and looking for inspiration for your shots? Or maybe the social side is most important, meeting new people, making new friends, learning from others or passing on the skills you have.

We can offer you all of this, so please do come and try us out.
We meet on Wednesday evenings, starting at 7:30pm at the Arts Society Building (Thie Ellyn) off Withington Road, Douglas. It is down either of 2 narrow alleys behind the houses on the lower side of Withington Road, between Woodbourne Road and Ballaquayle Road. All meetings are open to the public (£2 entry fee) and all will be given a very warm welcome. It is hoped that we will restart meetings in late September.

There is car parking under the Thie Ellyn building and on the various side streets around. See the map.

It is not all competitions by any means!

We have practical evenings, demos about how to use your camera, how to understand what settings on the camera to use for various conditions and subjects, like landscapes, insects, portraits, how to make images better using Photoshop, how to do quirky things like capturing an ice cube dropped into a glass of water. We also have presentations of work by members and guest speakers.

That will be the time when members learn from others, and become inspired to improve their own work. Although entering the competitions is encouraged, there is no compulsion. We have some members who never or very rarely enter, but still get a lot of enjoyment from the meetings.

We have two groups of members, Intermediate and Advanced, for competition purposes, so that no-one needs to feel that they are out of their depth.

More details of the Programme will be available later under the Programme tab here on our website .

We are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union and are indebted to the Isle of Man Arts Council for their support.

I hope this gives some information about the club – but if you have any further queries, please get in touch –  direct to the current Club President  jeremybroomesmith@gmail.com or the Club Secretary chris.nicholls@manx.net
