IOMPS extra

The Isle of Man Photographic Society is delighted that at last we are able to re-start our club meetings. The first one this season is extra special!

We are starting with a flourish! Our first meeting will be on 7th October at 7.30pm at the St. John Ambulance Headquarters building, and will be the much delayed but not forgotten Annual Print Competition, where our members' best work will be displayed to the audience, and to a judge, who will give knowledgeable and helpful comments on each image, award a score, and choose the images that she considers worthy of an award.

And she is not just any judge! We have Dr Patricia Tutt, PhD., ARPS, CPAGB. She is an active member of the Western Photographic Society, very experienced and very well qualified photographically as well as being an acclaimed architect. We are so lucky to be able to source someone so eminently suitable locally. Patricia has a well-stocked website https://www.patriciatutt.com/ and exhibits her photographs in various locations.

These images are examples of the kind of photography we might expect to see in the competition.

The Annual Digital Image Competition will be held three weeks later on 28th October, also to be judged by Patricia Tutt.

A second flourish to our opening night is that we will be in our new premises. We have moved to the St John Ambulance Headquarters building, off Glencrutchery Road Douglas, just north of the TT Grandstand.

All our meetings will now be at this new venue. It is spectacularly well-appointed and modern, with excellent facilities, comfortable chairs, and on-site parking with overflow spaces at the adjacent gym. We are most grateful to St. John Ambulance for accommodating us.

As part of the Covid protection measures, there will be hand sanitiser at the entrance, and everyone attending will be required to add their name, and the time they arrive, and leave, to a list, at the beginning and end of each meeting.

All our meetings are open to all. We actively encourage anyone even vaguely interested in image-making to come to any meetings. We extend this invitation to all members of all the photographic community on the Island, to artists, to students, to everyone who likes looking at pictures! We charge a visitor fee of only £2.

We much appreciate the support we receive from the Isle of Man Arts Council to make this a memorable evening for both members and visitors.
